11.7 x 10.1 inches, 432 pages, hardcover with acetate jacket
Take 100, published by Phaidon, presents the work of 100 contemporary film directors, as selected by 10 international film festival organizers. The work of each director is shown through a key film, utilizing film stills, script text, on-set photography, a film poster, production details, and a short critical essay. Projected light is translated into the space of the book through a transparent acetate cover; all text inside is set in dark metallic silver ink. A printed silver strip runs through the full book, editing the work of 100 directors into an flowing montage of film stills; snippets of dialogue intermittently fade into images through the metallic ink, each reading as an intimate voice within the book’s information-driven framework.
